Microblading

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?
During microblading, pigments are applied to the eyebrow area to give the appearance of hairs. An aesthetician uses a microblade tool to apply colour pigments that resemble real hair. The colour effect will fade over time, so touch-ups may be necessary to maintain the desired look.
The first session lasts for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the brows will appear darker immediately afterwards. Microblading offers natural-looking and defined eyebrows, but the process typically takes time to perfect. A second session is required after 4–6 weeks, and the results will last for 2–3 years thereafter.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE CONSIDERING MICROBLADING
- The person performing the microblading should be a licensed aesthetician who has undergone appropriate training.
- It is important to check the aesthetician’s credentials before proceeding with the procedure.
- Someone with accreditation from PhiBrows or A|PHICONTOUR is likely to have more credibility and training in permanent makeup or microblading.
- Reviewing the aesthetician’s experience, previous before-and-after results, and client testimonials is essential.
PREPARATION FOR THE MICROBLADING
- Avoid caffeinated beverages or alcohol on the day of the procedure.
- Avoid tinting, makeup, threading, or waxing before the appointment.
- Do not tan or sunbathe for three days before the appointment.
- Avoid chemical peels or other intense facial treatments for at least 2–3 weeks prior to the procedure.
- Wash and style your hair before the procedure, as the brows must not come into contact with water for at least seven days.
ON THE DAY OF THE MICROBLADING
- Sit down and voice any questions or concerns.
- The aesthetician will apply a topical numbing ointment to the brow area to reduce discomfort during the procedure.
- The process is detailed and takes up to two hours, including measurements, sketching the desired shape, and completing the procedure.
- The client may feel a scraping sensation in the brow area, but the process is usually minimally painful and very tolerable.
RECOVERY & AFTERCARE
- Gently wash the brows with antibacterial soap, avoiding prolonged exposure to water.
- After the procedure, and for at least one week, the eyebrows might appear darker and feel sharper due to scabbing and healing. Some redness and mild swelling are normal.
- Apply a minimal amount of moisturising ointment or Vaseline.
- Avoid water exposure for 7–10 days, including long showers or swimming.
- Do not apply makeup to the brow area while it is healing to keep it clean.
- Avoid picking at the scabs.
- Do not use facial scrubs or peels for at least four weeks after the treatment.
- Avoid sleeping on your face for at least 10 days after the treatment.
OUTCOME & COSTS
The goal of microblading is to create a natural-looking fill for thin eyebrows. Results can last 1–3 years, depending on skin type and lifestyle. The quality of the outcome depends on the skill and experience of the aesthetician, emphasising the importance of choosing a licensed and experienced professional.
The procedure typically costs between £250 and £320, depending on the treatment needed. Once the skin has healed, applying sunscreen to the microbladed area can help protect the brows and prevent the colour from fading. Some individuals may require a touch-up to finalise the brows 4–8 weeks after the procedure.
